Lexus Follows In Tesla's Footsteps By Giving Its RZ 450e a Yoke Steering Wheel

Tesla‘s influence on the automotive industry has been more than just convincing us that electrification is the future, as its minimal interior design, touchscreen user interfaces, and over-the-air updates have become the norm for many luxury cars today. Now, it seems the controversial yoke steering wheel from its Model S Plaid is starting to influence the likes of Lexus, as the luxury Japanese automaker has revealed its new RZ 450e will come with a yoke steering wheel too.

The image released by Lexus shows a slightly more complex yoke shape than what Tesla offers in the Model S Plaid, complete with both touch and tactile buttons on either side of the central horn and airbag component. Elsewhere in the cabin, a digital driver’s display is complemented by another digital infotainment screen, which is interestingly slightly skewed towards the view of the driver — like you get in a supercar.

Lexus’ layout looks ergonomic too, with the design of the cabin encapsulating the driver in their own section. As for the car itself, you’ll have to wait until April 20 to see the RZ 450e in all its EV glory. It will become Lexus’ first fully battery-operated electric car, and it is said that the car “is designed and engineered to set a new benchmark in terms of premium driving experience, providing the driver with a carefully crafted and intimate connection with their car, characterized by confidence, control and comfort.”
