Y-3's Runner adidas 4D Halo Blends New Tech With Old Styling Cues
Coming for the 20th birthday of Y-3.

2022 marks 20 years of Yohji Yamamoto and adidas‘ Y-3 partnership, and today the brand has unveiled the latest round of shoes to come from the collaborative line, specifically focusing on the leading Y-3 Runner adidas 4D Halo.
Coming in “Core White/Red/Bright Cyan,” this 4D-equipped mid-top runner follows on from a slew of futuristic and technical sneakers from Y-3 in recent years. From 2018’s RUNNER 4D to 2019’s pair that debuted the first “Bone”-hued midsole, Y-3 has served as a vessel for footwear experimentation, and the new iteration is no different.
What’s special about the new Y-3 Runner adidas 4D Halo is that it blends the old with the new. For example, the “Red” Three Stripes on the mid-panel are made from thread and are a nod to archival pairs that featured similar stripes, but by weaving these into the 4D midsole, the pair is also brought into the modern world.
Elsewhere, the upper is semi-transparent and is made from a micro-mesh that’s overlayed with a technologically engineered structural material that works the toe, vamp, and eyestay placket, giving the shoe substance. Another specially-made lightweight material works the heel and the mudguard, while the collar and tongue section is knitted in “Core White” and is rounded out with Y-3 branding.
Complementing the futuristic sneaker is a webbing heel strap and, of course, that sole unit that’s been fitted with a Continental rubber gum-hued Y-3 branded outsole that’s adorned with sculptural nodules for added grip.
Take a look at the Y-3 Runner adidas 4D Halo in “Core White/Red/Bright Cyan” above, and pick up the pair from adidas’ website on March 6 for £350 GBP (approximately $470 USD).
In other news, the YEEZY BOOST 700 V2 “Static” is re-releasing.
