Sir Michael Caine's Gold Rolex Oysterquartz Breaks World Record At Auction
All of the 183 pieces from Caine’s personal collection sold in London.

A collection of personal items, including watches, belonging to legendary actor Sir Michael Caine and his wife have sold at auction in London.
The star lot of ‘Sir Michael Caine: The Personal Collection Sale’ at Bonhams London was an 18K yellow gold Rolex Oysterquartz Day-Date that the actor had worn on screen in several films including A Shock To The System and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which sold for £125,250 GBP (approximately $166,500 USD) setting a new world record price for that model and smashing the pre-sale estimate of £8,000-£12,000 GBP ($10,500 USD – $15,800 USD).
Other watches sold included a 1990 Breitling Navitimer Aerospace titanium analogue/digital that was an everyday wearer throughout the 90s and early 2000s and was pictured on his wrist in 2008 when he placed his hand and footprints out Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The watch sold for £10,837 GBP ( $14,300 USD).
Lady Shakira’s 1990 Patek Philippe La Flamme Ref: 4816/3 with cream sigma dial and diamond hour markers sold for £19,000 GBP ($25,100 USD) while a carbon fiber Traser H3 Black Storm Pro, which was on his wrist at the London premiere of Batman Begins in 2005, sold for £4,080 GBP ($5,400 USD). The 183-lot auction raised £847,000 GBP ($1.1m USD).
“This was a fantastic result,” says Jonathan Darracott, Bonhams Global Head of Watches. “The Rolex Oyster quartz was a ground-breaking watch cased in typical Rolex style but it was really the stardust of Sir Michael Caine that captured the imagination of our bidders with frenzied bidding until the last two battled for the last few bids.”
