Closer Looks: CLOT x Nike "FLUX DUNK"
Coming complete with exclusive lenticular collectible cards.
United by a mutual aim of pushing and bridging the boundaries of cultures, communities, and creativity, CLOT and Nike have come together once again for a take on the Dunk High. Centered around “Flux,” the shoe channels the concept of continuous change or movement—whether it is time, nature, or the constant change of situations, roles, and even dimensions in our everyday lives.
Taking a closer look at the CLOT x Nike “FLUX DUNK,” we investigate the yin and yang philosophy of fluidity and harmony inspiration CLOT Founder and Creative Director Edison Chen drew on for the collaboration. Utilizing a dynamic lenticular design, the footwear design is Chen’s call to embrace the change, and the harmony of now and the future.
“The original concept was infusing a Yin and Yang philosophy of black and white. It’s predominantly silver right now, but actually, the ends of the spectrum are white and black, and the mixture of those in the middle is what causes this chrome-like silver effect on the shoe,” says Edison Chen.
“I have always had this fascination with lenticular since I was a child. When we started approaching the design, I thought about a shoe that would change and would catch your eye even if you’re standing across the street,” Edison explains. “The shoe, at every angle you move, gives you a different feel. The simplicity of the colorway and the subtleness give a very contemporary view of what a shoe might look like in the future,” he added.
The Nike Dunk High is reimagined with a lenticular construction that stretches across the entirety of the shoe. The optical illusion expressing a variety of tones is accented by white contrast stitching that highlights the design of the model. While co-branded tongue tags and printed insoles serve as the additional branding accompanying the topstitched midfoot Swooshes. Rounding up the design of the shoe are heel loops, white sockliners, matching laces and sole units.
Additionally, each pair of the CLOT x Nike “Flux Dunk” will come complete with an exclusive random collectible card. The collection of cards features six lenticular designs that celebrate the shoe, with two special versions (Limited Edition and Ultra-Rare) autographed by Edison Chen.
Priced at $150 USD, take a closer look at the CLOT x Nike “Flux Dunk” above set to release March 18 via JUICE.
