Eli Bonerz and Adam Silverman’s L.A.-based brand XLARGE predominantly floats under the radar, despite the fact it’s been around since 1991 and is one of the pioneers of L.A.’s streetwear scene. However, when it does a collaboration, such as this 30th anniversary-celebrating partnership with adidas Originals on the Campus 80, it pulls out all the stops.
XLARGE and adidas Originals have a long-standing relationship, dating back to 2009 when it delivered a take on the Five-Two 3 Superstar, before bringing a Campus 80 in 2012 and a Superstar 80s in 2013. Now, the streetwear stalwart returns for it’s 30th birthday, introducing two pairs of Campus 80 sneakers drawing from inspirations such as skateboarding, the club scene, and mid-century design trends that frequent the brand’s aesthetic.
For this collaboration, the Campus 80 is presented in “Mesa/Solar Red/Gum” and “Orbit Violet/Core Black/Chalk White,” with both pairs wearing an upper clad in suede. The low-profile pairs are intersected with leather Three Stripes in contrasting colors, and for a retro touch, adidas’ Trefoil logo has been embroidered into the leather heel patch.
Elsewhere, we find XLARGE’s logo on a rubbery roundel on the tongue, and a cow print lining that spans across both colorways. Rounding out the collaborative pairs are the multiple sets of laces that come in the box, allowing you to add your own twist to the sneakers.
Take a look at XLARGE’s adidas Originals Campus 80 pack above, and pick up both pairs from adidas Confirmed on February 4 for just £75 GBP (approximately $100 USD).
