TOGA Delivers Free-Spirited Tailoring and Frills for FW22
Served up in a medley of luxurious materials.
Yasuko Furuta‘s Japanese label TOGA often floats under the radar, but it’s actually one of the best fashion brands to come out of Tokyo that doesn’t strictly adhere to streetwear. Instead, TOGA is known for its stunning application of embellishments and use of fabrics that transform otherwise typical garments into works of art, and its Fall/Winter 2022 story is no different.
In a video presentation shot in an empty warehouse, looks are paraded to the backing track of “Inkjet” by Crate Classics, remixed by 5 Easy Pieces, for a jungle-infused beat. It’s a case of juxtaposition for TOGA FW22 — the grunginess of the warehouse and the jungle sounds are met with opulence from the collection, which is bombarded with silks, faux fur, sequins, feathers and lamé fabrics.
Standouts this season include the garnet red blazer that’s paired with a short filly skirt (a là Miu Miu and Stefan Cooke), as well as the fluffy faux-fur overcoat in beige, which is split below the knee and mirrored with more of the same texture adorning the trouser cuffs. Elsewhere, we find kimono-inspired jackets emblazoned with a crushed floral print in the black silky fabric, accented with a broach for extra flair, and more faux-fur fringing on a blazer that’s fitted with a rug-like tufted bottom section and collar trims.
While cropped binbag puffer jackets and architectural tracksuits do appear, it is TOGA’s free-spirited tailoring that takes center stage this season. Take a look at the collection in the gallery and video above.
