Les Twins’ Success Isn’t Down To Luck
HYPEBEAST speaks to the duo ahead of their latest Hennessy collaboration.

For Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, their rise to stardom was never in doubt. Better known as Les Twins, the self-taught dance duo first garnered international fame after appearing on the French talent show Incroyable Talent in 2008, before their performance during the World of Dance tour two years later went viral on YouTube.
Since then the duo have worked with the likes of Beyoncé and Missy Elliott, and even appeared in campaigns for fashion brands including Audemars Piguet, Jordan and Emporio Armani. While their rise from plucky hopeful contestants to internationally renowned artists hasn’t always been easy, they were always convinced it would eventually work out.
“This sounds funny, but when we were young, we always knew this was going to happen for us,” Laurent tells HYPEBEAST. “There are so many dancers in the world and we’re not the first twin dancers, but it’s not luck. I think it’s something we put out.”
As Laurent says, both he and Larry are adamant their rise isn’t just down to luck, and it hasn’t always been easy for the pair (mostly down to their upbringing in a northern suburb of Paris). “In our universe, we don’t like to use that word [luck],” explains Larry. “It’s deserved, not lucky. If we get on stage because we’re “lucky” to be there, we still have to kill it. So luck doesn’t exist. It’s hard work, and love. And besides, I don’t think it’s luck to have been born where we were born, and to have the life that we started out with.”
Since Les Twins’ inception in 2008, collaborations have had a major part to play every step of the way. Whether it’s the renowned artists mentioned above or work alongside some of the world’s biggest fashion brands, a part of the pair’s success comes down to its collaborators. Most recently the duo announced Hennessy in Motion by Les Twins, a link up with the French cognac specialist to design and develop a unique capsule comprising two limited-edition bottles, with another drop rumored to be in the works with fashion designer Stéphane Ashpool.
“Hennessy came to Les Twins, exactly like how Audemar Piguets came to us, and exactly how Beyoncé came to us, and exactly how Michael Jordan came,” explains Laurent of how the unification came about. “Collaboration is always a beautiful thing. With someone like Hennessy and the history of that brand, how far they’ve come to be where they are today, their attitude, their struggles behind every single step, it’s exactly like Les Twins life. We’re so similar, on a lot of points.”
Keep an eye out on HYPEBEAST for more arrivals from the upcoming collaboration between Hennessy and Les Twins landing on HBX on March 9. You can find more information on the limited-edition bottles via the brand’s dedicated website.
