Balenciaga's $875 USD Space Shoe Is Fit for the Metaverse
Pre-orders are now open for the SS22 runway-debuted shoe.
Demna took Balenciaga to the red carpet for Spring/Summer 2022, dressing the house’s closest friends and familiar models in the latest ceremony-appropriate garments before translating these looks into an episode of The Simpsons. Now, certain pieces from the SS22 collection are appearing online on a pre-order basis, and the first to come is Balenciaga’s Space Shoe.
Coming in black, the pair is made from rubber and is finished in either a shiny effect or a matte effect. Regardless of the colorway you opt for, the Space Shoe gives off a futuristic aesthetic that’s combined with undertones of medieval attire, partly because of the pair’s elongated pointy toe.
Designed and described to be a modern interpretation of a derby, the pair is made from a single mold of injected rubber that provides a 5mm arch and wears Balenciaga’s block-caps moniker on the collar. The heel is angular and comes to a point, while the side profile reveals architectural sculpturing that gives the Space Shoe its 3022 vibe.
Balenciaga has opened pre-orders globally for the new Space Shoe, which is yours for $875 USD. So far, just the black colorways are available, but we suspect the red version that was also seen on the SS22 runway will come soon.
