An Intimate Look at Timeless, APOLLO Architects' Latest Tokyo Project
Two courtyards are nestled parallel of the home’s living quarters.
APOLLO Architects’ latest project, Timeless, encapsulates the Japanese spirit of minimalism in a two-story home built in Tokyo, Japan.
The floor plan, developed by architect Satoshi Kurosaki and constructed by Katsura Komuten, revels in the tranquility of minimalist design. A Japanese couple, parents of three, were eager to forgo their city dwellings for more earnest domesticated living and commissioned APOLLO Architects for a modernized home, valuing security and privacy above all else.
APOLLO Architects’ 300 square meter home envisions a modern space encapsulated in nature with the help of two interior courtyards nestled parallel to the main floor. From a pedestrian view, the home is entirely closed off from the outside world and appears sterile; within, an elegant, warm interior extends throughout the open floor plan, washed in natural light during the day. Clean, symmetrical lines hold the home afoot, with spacious outward-facing windows positioned predominantly in the main living room.
Japanese greenery breathes life into the otherwise streamlined interior, and the smallest courtyard faces north and fills the main living room with natural light during the day. In the evenings, warm light envelops the living room, where the contemporary furnishings and concrete, glass, and tile amenities come to life. The living room, study, and bedrooms face inward to the courtyard, which features a bamboo grove and study space.
