adidas Unveils First Spinnova-Produced Product
The adidas Terrex HS1 mid-layer is made using wood-based fibers.

adidas has unveiled its first product produced in partnership with Finnish textile company Spinnova, using an innovative material comprising 30% wood-based fibres and 70% organic cotton. The item is the adidas Terrex HS1, a mid-layer piece designed to be worn by hikers.
The announcement of the Terrex HS1 mid-layer comes just eight months after adidas invested in Spinnova, reportedly backing the company with €3 million EUR (approximately $3.43 million USD). The fabrics used is produced partly from wood-based fibers, which give the Terrex HS1 its natural color.
Announcing the sustainable new product, adidas Terrex general manager Carla Murphy said:
“adidas’ commitment to sustainability is longstanding. Progress is about learning and constantly moving forward – and for adidas this also means partnering to innovate in new areas. At Terrex we are on a journey to drive greater sustainability of our technical apparel and we’re constantly looking to find new ways to help end plastic waste. Working with Spinnova is another step on this journey.”
