Seiko is celebrating 110 years of watchmaking with the reintroduction of Japan’s first wristwatch — The Laurel. Digging back into the archives, the Seikosha Laurel has been revived for 2023 to celebrate what the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers designated as one of its “Mechanical Engineering Heritages.”

The original watch has been faithfully recreated in a 37.5mm case and bund-style strap and incorporates details like the large onion crown, an enamel dial by Mitsuru Yokosawa, and blue hands. The watch features hours, minutes, seconds, a small date subdial, and a power reserve indicator. Powering the watch is a modern caliber 6R27 movement that sees 45 hours of power reserve and is accurate +25 to -15 seconds per day.

This watch is set to launch in Japan in January next year and is limited to 2,500 pieces.
