Zaha Hadid Architects to Construct the New Hangzhou International Sports Center
A fully-equipped facility providing space for both aspiring and professional athletes
Renowned for creating radical deconstructivist architectural designs, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) will be designing the new Hangzhou International Sports Centre.
Hangzhou is one of the world’s leading centers for e-commerce and home to many largest technology companies in China. Headed by the ZHA, the new sports center will encompass a visionary outlook fitting for the Future Science and Technology Cultural District where the center will be located within. As a part of the development, a new riverfront park and public plazas will also be established to connect the sports center to the city’s expanding metro network.
The fully-equipped sports center sets out to provide a space for both aspiring and professional athletes. A 60,000-seat football stadium and practice pitches designed to FIFA standards, a 19,000-seat indoor arena, and an aquatics center fitted with two 50-meter pools among other sports facilities will be incorporated into the building. On top of that, half of the site can be transformed into new public spaces for leisure, recreation, and relaxation to accommodate the city’s growing population.
