The North Face Celebrates 30 Years of the Nuptse Jacket
Wishing the seminal outerwear staple a happy birthday with the ‘92 reissue collection.
Few outerwear pieces are as esteemed, iconic, and seminal as the Nuptse from The North Face — which turns 30 years old this year. In celebration of this, TNF is releasing the ‘92 Nuptse collection; a stitch-for-stitch homage to the piece that started our love affair with the pioneering outdoors brand.
Coming in “TNF Red,” “TNF Blue,” and a limited-edition “Retro Anniversary” black and white abstract pattern that looks as if the white has been painted on with a sponge, the Nuptse is complete with shapes, padding, and structure that’s as honest to the original as can be. However, the addition of a special 1992 The North Face badge (which influences an accompanying apparel range) on the arm shows that these three jackets are indeed reissues.
As expected, every inch of the Nuptse has been meticulously designed to keep you warm — why else do you think the U.K.’s streetwear crowd swears by them every time there’s a winter drop? Utilizing proprietary baffle technology, the jackets are designed to minimalize the way the down-padding moves inside the jacket, thus keeping everything in place and you warm.
From the streets of Soho to the Himalayan mountains, the Nuptse has been by fashion and gorpcore’s side since 1992. Take a look at the 30th-anniversary examples above, and pick the jackets up from select TNF stores and online from November 30, while stocks last.
Elsewhere, Pretty Boy is the latest streetwear brand to come out of London.
