Y2K Brand Paul Frank Makes a Comeback Courtesy of MadeMe
Working together to produce baby tees, mohair sweaters, satchels and heaps of nostalgia.
Y2K throwback fashion is still having a moment, and nothing could be more nostalgic than MadeMe‘s new collaboration with Paul Frank.
For those that need a reminder, Paul Frank is the eponymous label of the American artist of the same name; starting from a small garage in Huntington Beach, California, in 1995 where Frank would create custom wallets as gifts for his friends. It soon boomed as the turn of the new millennium arrived, sitting alongside brands like Diesel, Ed Hardy and Baby Phat in a Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie kind of realm.
Now, the New York-based label MadeMe has tapped into the Paul Frank archive for a comprehensive capsule collection. MadeMe prides itself on its mantra “by girls, for girls,” representing “the dynamic perspectives of today’s downtown youth.” It’s unapologetically inspired by the ’90s, a time that, as it explains, saw “a powerful female-first ethos shape music, clothing, and culture.” With this in mind, everything MadeMe does is for the girls that pioneered their industries for generations to come.
Through the Paul Frank collaboration, MadeMe has brought back a memory of the good days for many of its customers who are, like them, well versed in 1990s and noughties culture. The result includes zip-up hoodies, leopard-print mohair sweaters, a pajama set, double-layer long-sleeve T-shirts, baby ringer tees, plaid kilts, beanies, and perhaps the most nostalgic of them all, a duo of bowling bag-esque satchels.
