Rimowa's Traveling “As Seen By” Installation arrives in Berlin
Celebrating the art of engineering.
Rimowa has presented the last installment in its international traveling exhibition, with the last stop taking place at the monumental Kant-Garagen — an iconic Bauhaus six-story parking lot in Charlottenburg, Berlin.
Titled “As Seen By,” the moving exhibition features familiar Rimowa luggage completely re-contextualized by the creative vision of local studios, each looking to amplify the principles of lightweight construction. For the first time, the brand is bringing together the works of over 60 artists and designers who have taken part in the project across its seven previous locations, including Paris, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Also on show are never-before-seen artworks created especially for the finale, including the Meta Side Table from NEW TENDENCY, which has been the subject of a number of collaborative makeovers in the past – ranging from a hot pink edition with ALYX to a blue one with Études. For this exhibition, NEW TENDENCY reimagined the Meta Side Table using Rimowa’s hallmarked embossed aluminum, while also proudly exposing the typically hidden lattice.
Premiered at Dover Street Market’s 3537 outpost in Paris, “As Seen By” has since been shown at Soho House in Hong Kong, as well as Art Basel Miami. The Kant Garagen will mark the final destination for the exhibition, where it will remain on view until November 14, 2022.
