Just a couple of days after Twitter‘s first failed attempt to charge accounts for verification, new CEO Elon Musk has announced that it is working on another way to authenticate its users.

On Sunday afternoon, Musk tweeted that the company will soon roll out a feature that will allow organizations to identify accounts that are “actually associated with them.” Following the backlash the tech company faced last week after Musk revealed plans to democratize Twitter verifications which led to a slew of new verified trolls signing up for Twitter Blue. To many people’s predictions, the Twitter verification issue became a mess, causing Musk to go back on his word.

While Musk did not give additional details besides hinting at a new rollout plan, it is almost certain that the Tweet was in response to the failed initial verification plan to charge users $8 USD/month for a Twitter Blue subscription. Many then used the opportunity to impersonate celebrities and brands. When a user ask if “any user [will] be able to ‘be’ / crate an organization? Or will Twitter be the arbiter of what constitutes an organization?” Musk responded, “Ultimately, I think there is no choice but for Twitter to be the final arbiter, but I’m open to suggestions.” It is clear that there are many details that need to be ironed out in Musks’ plan, but as for now the public has spoken and have pushed against the paid verification model.
