CELINE Summer 2023 Serves Off-Duty Supermodel Chic and Rockstar Nostalgia
“LA COLLECTION DE SAINT-TROPEZ” plays on everything Hedi Slimane has learned.
If Hedi Slimane is sure of anything, it’s that he’s sure of himself. For CELINE‘s Summer 2023 collection, the lauded designer looks to codes that have come to define him and the House he creates for, doubling down on what has made the French luxury brand favored among the glitterati.
Soundtracked to Carl Barât and Pete Doherty of The Libertines, Slimane took to Saint-Tropez for a sun-drenched showcase of nautical finesse, rock star appeal and sophisticated glamor — everything CELINE stands for. Over the past 20 years, Slimane has built a clientele, and subsequent friendships, with many people who subscribe to such a lifestyle; having dressed the likes of Doherty and his peers in the British and American rock scenes for years partly making them the figures they are today. This legacy comes as the inspiration for CELINE’s Summer 2023 womenswear collection, entitled “LA COLLECTION DE SAINT-TROPEZ.”
Leather and denim stick to the skin like oil, while sequin-covered blazers billowing in the sea breeze accentuate the rock star persona Slimane has inflicted upon CELINE. Handbags are structured but soft, giving an air of a woman who’s not too bothered about keeping things looking pristine (because it doesn’t matter, it’s CELINE). Paired with sunglasses Joan Didion would approve of and you’ve got yourself a look any rock star’s girlfriend from the noughties would approve of.
This nonchalance and off-duty supermodel attitude ooze throughout Summer 2023, as mini skirts cut in smooth lambs leather are adorned with gold buttons for something nautical and chic, especially when paired with the lace bandeau and boyfriend blazer. Peterpan collars dress up leather panel dresses, while frequent use of houndstooth check harks back to the rock influences of the past.
