Swiss-born designer Ben Ganz has unveiled a special collaboration with USM Modular Furniture and New York-based design imprint PIN–UP HOME, titled USM NYC by Ben Ganz.

The three-part collision breeds a limited-edition collection of USM storage objects made by Ganz, marking USM’s first-ever multiple-piece collection made in collaboration with an independent designer. Inside the range, there are six original configurations, each of which draws inspiration from New York’s urban layout.

Among them, there are several versions of tower-like storage compartments and a bevy of central lounge seats. Each piece is equipped with a wheeled base that extends from the center, adding a mobile element to each work. Notably, each design is available in three powder-coated steel colors: Uptown Blue, Soho Yellow and Downtown Pink.

“There’s a long tradition of the skyscraper and the skyline in furniture design,” said Ganz. “I’m thinking about Paul T. Frankl’s Skyscraper bookshelves from the 1920s, which used the skyscraper as a symbol of American modernity, or Gaetano Pesce’s iconic Tramanto a New York couch, which echoed 1980s Gotham. Given that USM’s origin is so directly connected to architecture, it made sense to me to continue this legacy. And the tower is a perfect symbol of New York — where the only place to build is up.”

The collection will be presented for the first time during Design Miami, with an official booth opening on November 29 and closing on December 4. The collaboration will be exclusively available via PIN—UP HOME, a new platform dedicated to design objects and modern home accessories.
