Valentino Looks Back to the Future With Its New VLogo Toile Iconographe

Pierpaolo Piccioli continues to take Valentino to new heights, doubling down on his maximally minimalistic “Unboxing Valentino” SS23 runway show as the Creative Director officially reveals the house’s new VLogo — a new Toile Iconographe.

Seen dominantly throughout the aforementioned runway show — growing not just across clothes but expanding onto the faces of the models — the new VLogo welcomes Valentino into a logomanic universe, only one underpinned with sophistication and poise; words you’d seldom use for such overt branding.

Valentino manages this by serving the VLogo on strongly-contrasted garments; pieces of clothes that are cut to the exacting standards we’ve come to expect from Piccioli. Spreading across the pret-à-porter range and Valentino Garavani accessories in a jacquard canvas, we find black branding decorate autumnal beige bases for that perfect dimensional effect. Here, a light overshirt takes center stage, its leather-trimmed darted collar and matching cuff bands, and the concealed fastening coming together for something formal and structured, yet enlivened with the bold print.

Elsewhere, the VLogo consumes bucket hats, silk scarves, belts, shorts, shopping bags, and boots, before taking an even louder form in red VLogo branding on top of a beige base. Per the brand, “Valentino Toile Iconographe is born, the canvas is iconographic: the image is everything. The logo becomes everything. Obsessive and exaggerated, both liberating and unique. Original and elegant indelible sign of our times and of our contradictions – actions. Logo as icon of our choices, even the most intimate.”

By utilizing such a print, Valentino is both acknowledging its heritage while projecting itself into the future. The “V” shape is synonymous with the house, a shape that first appeared in Mr. Valentino’s Spring/Summer 1968 collection. Take a look at the Steven Meisel-shot campaign in the gallery above, and find more on the VLogo collection online or in boutiques now.

Elsewhere, GANT has taken to NYC for FW22.
