Jewelry pioneers Tosh Rice and Carmen Scott-Gomez are on a mission to keep jewelry inclusive. As a skater and photographer, Rice established an affinity for jewelry at a young age, and together with Scott-Gomez (a former fashion executive), he’s crafting an unconventional jewelry brand named Personal Fears.

Founded and based in Brooklyn, New York, the Personal Fears brand has a core focus on stainless steel and unisex offerings. The collection features “surgical-grade” stainless steel and sterling silver pieces formed into goth-inspired rings, bracelets and necklaces.

PF also crafts items that emphasize street culture with inclusivity of extreme sports, punk, dangerous lifestyles and dark romance.

Offering insight on the formation of the brand, Rice says: “As a teen, I couldn’t afford nice jewelry, and to be honest, I didn’t even know what that was – I just wanted stuff I identified with; but what I found always irritated my skin and turned it green. So as an adult, I went on a mission to find a metal that was non-toxic, something that lasts forever at a good price. Turns out it was stainless steel.”

“I fell in love with the inclusiveness of it, cuz really that’s what this whole thing is about,” he adds.

Personal Fears jewelry prices start at $34.99 USD and items can be found on the brand’s website.
