CITIZEN teases its first-ever collaboration with Nissan inspired by the Z-cars, releasing two limited-edition timepieces.
The Nissan Z has seen six generations since its first model in 1969. Known as the Fairlady Z to Japanese consumers, the iconic sports car originally featured a 2.0L SOHC L20A straight-six engine powering 130 hp. CITIZEN pays homage to the Fairlady Z by adapting the Ikazuchi Yellow and Seiran Blue body colors as the central color story, set against an ultra-modern, all-black strap, case, hands, and dial indexes.
The collectible timepieces, AT8185-89E and AT8185-97E, are equipped with CITIZEN’s solar-powered Eco-Drive Radio-Controlled technology, eliminating the need for an internal battery. The models adjust to overseas travel in four time regions — Japan, China, the United States, and Europe — calibrating date and calendar settings based on the wearers’ current location. Eco-Drive monitors everyday light sources and accommodates dim, fluorescent lighting through the use of an in-built solar cell. The watch requires six hours of direct sunlight per month for optimal performance.
Fans of the Fairlady Z will notice the intentional, fine-tuned details: The red second hand nods to Nissan’s redline tachometer; a stylized “Z” motif is featured at the crown; Nissan’s logo rests on the case back.
Both models are listed at $2,495 USD and are available for presale on CITIZEN’s home website, arriving in-store later this March at NYC flagship locations.
