Marni Taps Artist Magdalena Suarez Frimkess for Tiger-Filled Chinese New Year Collection
Tinged with references to the 1950s.

Francesco Risso‘s Marni is at the forefront of prints, patterns, and exuberant design, becoming increasingly coveted in the fashion scene for its brightly colored mohair cardigans and retro nods, and now it has unveiled its latest offering: a Chinese New Year capsule collection designed in conjunction with the Venezuelan artist Magdalena Suarez Frimkess.
Suarez’s playful illustrations of the tiger, which is the symbolic animal for CNY 2022, appear throughout Marni’s celebratory offering in print, embroidery, jacquard, and even 3D form in the case of some accessories. As expected, Marni’s flamboyant Milanese flair underpins everything in the capsule, serving up silks of baby blue with gold or poplin in burgundy and gold alongside the aforementioned tiger illustration, coming together that’s both reminiscent of the preppy 1950s and the irreverent ’70s.
But it’s the ’50s that really punctuate the lookbook, which showcases cashmere vests paired with baseball tees, or pajama-like ensembles layered with varsity jackets from Marni’s SS22 vol. 1 collection. All of the visual cues are enhanced with retro colors such as turquoise, jade, aquamarine, ruby, and the aforementioned shades too, which continue to decorate accessories such as the Pablo lace-up sneaker and its velcro equivalent, as well as a selection of bags and earrings.
Marni’s capsule collection with Magdalena Suarez Frimkess for Chinese New Year is now available on Marni’s website, in Marni boutiques, and in selected multi-brand retailers around the world.
In other news, Black Market COMME des GARÇONS has landed at DSML with plenty of collaborative goods.
