Grand Seiko is offering its US customers a pair of wintery exclusives, inspired by one of Japan’s 24 “sekki” sub seasons, Sōkō Frost.

The Spring Drive and mechanical Hi-Beat 36,000 Special Editions are exclusive to the US market and reflect the Sōkō Frosts that signal the arrival of winter in Japan.

The SBGA471 houses Grand Seiko’s 9R65 Spring Drive movement for +/- 15 seconds a month accuracy inside the 44GS case and features a power reserve indicator on its “icy blue vertically textured dial” based on the frozen trunks of bamboo trees in Japan’s Arashiyama forest.

Its counterpart, the SBGH295, uses a re-imagined version of the 62GS case, Grand Seiko’s first automatic watch with a dial inspired by “the clear blue skies over the Sea of Japan during the early winter months.” The same dial – kirazuri ice blue – was used for the first US limited edition Grand Seiko collection in 2018.

Inside beats Grand Seiko’s 9S85 Hi-Beat 10Hz automatic movement which manages a power reserve of 55 hours.

Both pieces are available now via Seiko’s US retailers, priced $6,000 USD and $6,900 USD respectively.

Elsewhere in watches, dial maker releases “Tiffany” Blue aftermarket dial for coveted Patek Philippe 5711.
