Activision Blizzard and US Employment Watchdog Agree to $18M USD Lawsuit Settlement
The gaming will company will launch a restitution fund for employees.
Activision Blizzard and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) have agreed to a lawsuit settlement worth $18 million USD.
According to reports, the gaming company will start an $18 million USD fund to pay compensation for employees, put a stop to its discriminatory practices, contract a consultant to “ensure compliance,” improve training and the process of its performance review to avoid any future offenses and, finally, comply with future audits from the EEOC.
“We will continue to be vigilant in our commitment to the elimination of harassment and discrimination in the workplace. We thank the EEOC for its constructive engagement as we work to fulfill our commitments to eradicate inappropriate conduct in the workplace,” Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement.
Sources previously revealed that the EEOC filed a suit in California based on a three-year investigation regarding Activision Blizzard’s alleged sexual harassment and discrimination practices. Although the company cooperated with the investigation, the EEOC case is just one of the several legal cases Activision Blizzard is facing; its employees have shared first-hand accounts of the work environment, while the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the company’s investors and the Campaign to Organize Digital Employees have filed lawsuits.
Elsewhere in gaming, Resident Evil 4 will be available on VR next month.
