'Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings' Soundtrack Highlights the Next Generation of Asian Musicians
Featuring Anderson .Paak, Rich Brian, Jhené Aiko and more.
Marvel Music and Interscope Records are gearing up to release the star-studded soundtrack for Marvel Studios‘ upcoming film, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.
Titled Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings: The Album, the tracklist employs Anderson .Paak, Rich Brian, Swae Lee, Jhené Aiko, Mark Tuan, Saweetie, Audrey Nuna, NIKI, Guapdad 4000, Warren Hue, keshi, 21 Savage, Rick Ross, DJ Snake and several others.
In collaboration with Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, music recording company 88rising executive produced the record with the intention of showcasing the “next generation of Asian artists from around the world,” according to a release.
“The music on this album is the beating heart of our film,” said Cretton in a statement. “As we were editing Shang-Chi, we were constantly inspired by the early recordings coming in from these incredible musicians. When I first spoke to [Sean Miyashiro, founder of 88rising] about the idea for this album, we knew we wanted it to stand alone as a piece of work, but also be wrapped in the themes of our movie… themes of family, legacy, pain and healing. We also just wanted to make a really great album that gives us all another reason to celebrate. I couldn’t be more excited to share this music and these artists with the world.”
According to Cretton, the film itself “shows the Asian-American experience through the eyes of a budding superhero,” unraveling the never-before-told origin story of Shang-Chi, the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s first Chinese American protagonist. Simu Liu plays the titular character alongside a stacked supporting cast, including Awkwafina, Fala Chen, Tony Chiu-Wai Leung and Michelle Yeoh.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings: The Album will become available alongside the film’s global release on September 3. Take a look at the full tracklist below.
