Louis Vuitton Drops $1,080 USD Football Boot-Inspired LV Sprint Sneaker

Fashion houses are no stranger to adopting and recontextualizing subcultures — just two seasons ago, the likes of Balenciaga dropped soccer-inspired sneakers, motocross boots, and a football jersey — and now Virgil Abloh‘s Louis Vuitton takes the next step by releasing the LV Sprint Sneaker, which is unquestionably also inspired by football boots.

While football boots today are technological masterpieces, Louis Vuitton’s take looks at the retro pairs from the ’90s and 2000s that frequented the pitch. The star colorway is served up in a festive green, red, and black ensemble, while another yellow-centric colorway is currently available too — the other duo of colorways have already sold out.

The LV Sprint Sneaker was debuted during the house’s Fall/Winter 2021 show “Ebonics / Snake Oil / The Black Box / Mirror, Mirror,” which happened to be one of Abloh’s most adventurous and perfected shows to date. Despite all of the greatness that did appear here, pieces such as these shoes did also crop up.

Regardless if you like the shoes or not, LV goes to show that it really can put its stamp on anything and call it a hit. The lightweight sneaker is made from a mix of technical materials (predominantly mesh) and features a graphic overlay that reminds us of the kind of patterns that would adorn a noughties football boot. Flashes of 3M appear all around, while the LV Monogram Flower motif takes center stage on the middle of the shoe.

The traditional Monogram logo appears on the tongue, while “Vuitton” graces the lateral-side rear-quarter heel in block letters alongside more signature house branding beneath it on a technical plastic-mesh section. Rounding out the pair is the large LV branding on the rear and the “Vuitton” embossing on the toe.
