Chanel is known for being more chic more than sporty, but that’s exactly the direction the French fashion house has headed in, giving its suave Monsieur model a new motorsport-inspired look.
The modern mash-up reimagines Chanel’s dress watch using cues from its 2005 J12 Superleggera chronograph, creating something new entirely.
The Monsieur’s signature jumping hour window, 240 degree retrograde minute arc and small seconds have been designed after racing car speedometers, surrounded by black nickel finish dashboard-style framework that divides the dial up into sections for the first time.
Matte black hobnail or clous de Paris guilloché patterns decorate the dial, matching the finish of the 42mm ceramic case and black coating applied to its manually wound Calibre 1 movement. A contrasting racing red is used on the small seconds hand, 60-second index, date pointer and the “Superleggera” signature at the 12 o’clock position.
The Monsieur Superleggera Edition, which is secured on a black nylon strap lined with red calfskin, drops next month priced $39,400 USD.
