UPDATE (September 3, 2021): The Social Status x Nike Dunk “Chocolate Milk” release has been postponed until September 10. See Social Status’ Instagram post below for more details.

ORIGINAL STORY (August 31, 2021): Labor Day Weekend is around the corner, and a holiday weekend calls for fresh kicks. Nike, adidas, New Balance and more have risen to the occasion with styles both collaborative and in-line, wild and mild, and we’ve rounded up the 10 best pairs dropping over the next seven days right here in our Weekly Footwear Drops list. However, before we dive into the week’s most dashing drops let’s take a look back at what went down in the world of sneakers last week.

On the feature front, designer and storyteller Frank Cooke was spotlighted in the latest installment of Sole Mates. We also provided a closer look at three kicks — two that you’ll see on this week’s list, one that you’ll see on next week’s list — namely the UNDEFEATED x Nike Air Force 1 “5 On It,” the Hajime Sorayama x MIZUNO WAVE PROPHECY and the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v3 “Outside Clothes.”

With Nike’s corporate employees out of office so they could “prioritize mental health,” it was a slower week than usual on the news front. However, there were still some noteworthy goings-on. The Swoosh’s employees may have been OOO but their lawyers certainly weren’t, bringing suit against John Geiger for his Air Force 1-inspired GF-01 sneaker. Besides sending their legal team after Geiger, the Swoosh started a CO.JP “tournament” on Nike SNKRS.

We also got closer looks at both UNDERCOVER x sacai x Nike LDWaffle collaborations, were tantalized by our best look yet at the Travis Scott x Nike Air Max 1 “Wheat,” checked out detailed shots of select pairs from Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ x Nike Dunk Low “The 50” collection — namely Lot #4, Lot #33 and Lot #34 — and saw four Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low samples. Jordan Brand got in on the action too with the reveal of the Air Jordan 1 “Marina Blue” and a look at the women’s Air Jordan 14 Low “Lipstick.”

Moving to the world of Kanye West, the bombastic rapper’s DONDA provided background music for the reveal of the adidas YEEZY QNTM “Onyx,” a teaser of the adidas YEEZY 500 “Brown Clay,” and a look at an early Nike Air Yeezy 1 wear test sample. Former adidas YEEZY employee Salehe Bembury gave us a brief glimpse of his fourth New Balance collaboration, and British outfit The Basement had their crack at a silhouette Bembury is quite familiar with: the 2002R, which they dressed in two suede styles.

All caught up? Let’s get into the best kicks releasing over the next seven days. When you’ve had your fill here, head over to HBX to check out even more new footwear styles.

Rick Owens x Converse Weapon TURBOWPN

Release Date: August 31
Release Price: $200 USD
Where to Buy: Converse
Why You Should Cop: Rick Owens has distorted another Converse classic, turning the Weapon, an ’80s basketball classic, into the avant-garde TURBOWPN. Signature Owens touches like doubled-up midsoles and elongated tongues give the TURBOWPN plenty of the Dark Lord’s fashion-goth flair, while a supple leather construction ensures its original basketball ethos remains intact.

Quartersnacks x Nike SB Dunk Low

Release Date: September 1
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: The Berrics Canteen
Why You Should Cop: The Quartersnacks team loves Little Debbies’ zebra cakes — so much, in fact that the brand’s new Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration is inspired by them. With a safari-ready black and white zebra print gracing its upper and special co-branded detailing on its heel, the Quartersnacks x Nike SB Dunk Low supplies plenty of playful, sugary style.

New Balance BB550 “White/Green,” “White/Team Royal” and “White/Team Red”

Release Date: September 1
Release Price: $110 USD (Each)
Where to Buy: New Balance
Why You Should Cop: New Balance’s 550 is one of the favored “cool guy” shoes of 2021, and the onetime basketball silhouette is set to head into the fall with a trio of tri-colored makeups. “White/Green,” “White/Team Royal” and “White/Team Red” all feature a mixture of white and team-colored shades, but also introduce black leather into the mix, making for a new twist on a now-familiar style.

UNDEFEATED x Nike Air Force 1 Low and Dunk Low “5 on It 2.0” Collection

Release Date: September 3
Release Price: $120 USD (Each)
Where to Buy: UNDEFEATED
Why You Should Cop: UNDEFEATED and Nike’s “5 on It” collection is back for round two with a colorful Air Force 1 Low and a stark Dunk Low. Each style uses five materials in a vastly different fashion: the blue and yellow Air Force 1 is big, bold and colorful while the Dunk is more subtle, but no matter which pair you prefer you can surely note the keen attention to detail on both.

Air Jordan 4 “Shimmer”

Release Date: September 3
Release Price: $190 USD
Where to Buy: Nike SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: Boasting luxurious materials, a natural-toned color scheme and an electroplated Jumpman logo, the Air Jordan 4 “Shimmer” is a luxe ladies’ style that may find favor with some fellas too due to its elevated feel. It’s also inspired by natural makeup palettes, a nod to one of the beauty trends Jordan Brand is exploring with its fall 2021 slate of retro releases.

DTLR x New Balance 992 “Varsity”

Release Date: September 3
Release Price: $185 USD
Where to Buy: DTLR
Why You Should Cop: If you’re looking to cop a patriotic pair of kicks for Labor Day weekend, the DTLR x New Balance 992 “Varsity” is the best choice you can make. Bringing a tasteful amount of red and blue embellishment and a US flag detail to a classic NB gray build, the “Varsity” is a grown-up way to do holiday weekend style.

Air Jordan 6 “Bordeaux”

Release Date: September 4
Release Price: $190 USD
Where to Buy: Nike SNKRS
Why You Should Cop: “Bordeux” was first made famous by Michael Jordan’s seventh signature sneaker, but now it’s taking a turn on his sixth thanks to the Air Jordan 6 “Bordeaux.” A murky black and gray sneaker with special “Bordeux” patterns and detailing on its tongue and insoles, this Air Jordan 6 is a thoughtfully-done piece of alternate history.

Hajime Sorayama x Mizuno WAVE PROPHECY

Release Date: September 4
Release Price: ¥38,500 JPY (approx. $370 USD)
Where to Buy: Dover Street Market
Why You Should Cop: Legendary Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama and Mizuno’s second WAVE PROPHECY collaboration will see a global release this week after dropping exclusively at Tokyo’s 2G in July. This Sorayama WAVE PROPHECY offers a matte finish instead of the metallic stylings used on the first pair, making for a masterful metal look that’s equal parts futurist art and classic running design.

Social Status x Nike Dunk “Chocolate Milk”

Release Date: September 4
Release Price: TBC
Where to Buy: Social Status
Why You Should Cop: The first of two Dunks from Social Status’s “Free Lunch” initiative, the Social Status x Nike Dunk “Chocolate Milk” is a warmly-colored shoe with a meaningful story. It’s inspired by the cartons of chocolate milk given out in free lunches and the concept of “beauty in the struggle,” both nods to Social Status founder James Whitner’s childhood. Inspiration aside, it’s a sneakerhead’s sweet dream with multiple shades of brown offset by blue, green and pink details alike.

adidas YEEZY Slide “Glow Green”

Release Date: September 6
Release Price: $60 USD
Where to Buy: adidas and YEEZY Supply
Why You Should Cop: Kanye West’s adidas YEEZY Slide is the sandal of summer 2021, and the “Glow Green” colorway is one of its most vibrant makeups yet. At the time of writing, the “Glow Green” is still pending official release confirmation from the Three Stripes, but its reported release — alongside a rumored restock of the YEEZY Slide’s “Core” and “Soot” colorways — supplies one of this list’s most laid-back styles.
