Vetements co-founders Guram Gvasalia and the Gvasalia Foundation have finally launched their hotly-anticipated “secret project” — it’s a brand called VTMNTS, and it made a grand debut with a Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection featuring 100 numbered looks.

The range, dubbed “XXX,” differs from Vetements’ usual figure-hugging and box-cut silhouettes with a slew of refreshingly proportional ensembles, all the while remaining true to its parent label’s design codes. Leather blazers, experimental cuts, philosophical graphics, skin-tight tops and futuristic eyewear speak to Vetements’ well-established aesthetic, though considerably toned-down garments set the precedent for the elevated-yet-accessible new imprint.

Across VTMNTS inaugural line, trucker jackets, puffers, straight-cut slacks and track pants provide a grounded alternative to Vetements’ more avant-garde offerings. The brand offers up a slew of youthful T-shirts, some boasting collegiate motifs and others fronting pronouns (“They/Them,” “She/Her” and “He/Him”) in bold print. Several iterations play with an all-over barcode textile, which claims sleeveless v-neck tops featuring abstract cuts, above-the-elbow gloves, T-shirts and sweaters in both red and black-and-white tones.

While the line was first announced in June through a teaser video and then with a private Instagram account under a straight-to-the-point username — @vetements_secret_project — no further information was available prior to the launch. Still, details are scarce, though the brand did disclose a foreshadowing sentiment in its press release: “100 looks represent our 100% commitment to this industry.”

Aside from fashion collections, VTMNTS is gearing up to offer mentorships, financial aid and various other beneficial initiatives, though the brand has not expounded on its plans to implement those projects, which were first revealed in the teaser.
