Nixon Light-Wave Uses #tide Ocean Plastics and Solar Charging

Nixon’s latest watch uses recycled ocean plastics and solar cells to reduce its environmental impact.
The analogue Light-Wave uses reclaimed and recycled plastic from Swiss company #tide for its strap and case and each watch takes two plastic bottles out of circulation and, with solar-charging, removes the need for single-use batteries altogether.
The 36mm Light-Wave features a semi-transparent dial, revealing the movement inside as the skeleton hour and minute hands move overhead. The watch also uses an unusual second hand that spans the entire circumference of the dial.
While the idea is to remove plastic from the ocean, Nixon clearly want people to take their Light-Wave into the ocean, making the watch water resistant to 100m.
Nixon have also added quick-release springbars to the 20mm woven strap to allow for easy strap changes.
The Light-Wave is Nixon’s latest move towards sustainable materials having already revamped its most popular models using #tide plastic earlier this year.
The Light-Wave drops today via Nixon, priced $150 USD.
