Extra Butter and adidas Golf Tee Up a 'Happy Gilmore' 25th Anniversary Collection
UltraBOOSTs, golf spikes, apparel and accessories — all inspired by Happy, Chubbs and Shooter McGavin.
It’s been 25 years since Happy Gilmore first charmed seasoned golfers and duffers alike, so Extra Butter and adidas are paying homage to the Adam Sandler-led comedy with a special anniversary collection of footwear, apparel and more. Centered around the film’s three main characters — Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, his coach Chubbs and his nemesis Shooter McGavin — the offerings aim to represent each individual’s personalities and quirks through color schemes and unique details.
The collection’s most striking piece is a special UltraBOOST 1.0, inspired by the cocksure Shooter McGavin. Dressed in yellow and equipped with white details, this UltraBOOST nods to McGavin’s signature “shooter” finger point with a detail on its mudguard and also features a full-color print of the fictional golfer on its insole. It’s accompanied by adidas’ take on McGavin’s coveted “Gold Jacket,” plus visors and caps. Christopher McDonald, the actor who played McGavin, even makes an appearance in the lookbook.
There’s also a new take on adidas Golf‘s ZG21 performance shoe, inspired by Happy’s mentor Chubbs. It combines a crisp white color scheme with throwback brogue paneling and fringe kiltie. If you look closely, you’ll even see gator skin and wood grain detailing for a nod to the alligator that bit Chubbs’ hand off. Performance gear like polos, shorts, pants and even an anorak boast embroidery that nods to Chubbs’ “it’s all in the hips” catchphrase.
Finally, Happy Gilmore, the star of the show is represented by an adilette BOOST Slide with course-ready green felt detailing, special stamps on the footbeds, an anniversary graphic on the strap and a full-length BOOST footbed. The sandal’s accompanying apparel is the most low-key of the bunch with graphic tees, sweatpants and even a cooler bag.
Arriving alongside this trio is two electric golf scooters from Phat Scooters, custom bags and club covers from Seamus Golf, a special glove from Asher Golf and gold golf balls produced by Vice Golf.
“25 years ago, a fictional character named Happy Gilmore broke the mold on what it meant to be a golfer, and we wanted to celebrate that with a unique collaboration and collection,” said Extra Butter co-founder and CEO Ankur Amin. “Golf is growing exponentially amongst every demographic. Golfers today are more diverse and the game is more inclusive than ever before. Golf is getting younger and breaking away from its “dad’s game” reputation as youth culture starts to embrace the sport. We wanted to be a part of this shift, bring our style to the sport and have fun with this project.”
Look for the entire collection to release via Extra Butter’s physical retail locations and online store come June 25.
