Porsche's GTS Lineup Revises and Refines the 911

The GTS spec is applicable to the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera 4, and the 911 Targa 4.

Porsche‘s 911 lineup is perhaps one of the most comprehensive (and confusing) lists of power variants applicable to any sports car around, and just to shake things up a little bit more, the German marque has now unveiled a new line of GTS models.

From November, Porsche will offer its 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera 4 (both in Coupé and Cabriolet guises), as well as the 911 Targa 4, with the GTS spec. What this offers is actually rather extensive, as the cars will be equipped with Porsche’s signature eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) or a seven-speed manual gearbox, a new GTS suspension utilizing Porsche Active Suspension Management, the performance braking from a 911 Turbo, and a weight loss of 25kg courtesy of a new “Lightweight Design” package.

Elsewhere, black contrasting bodywork elements and darkened headlights will be a visual cue that’ll distinguish the GTS apart from other 911s, while inside, you’ll find plenty of components covered in Race-Tex microfibre fabric.

As for power, the GTS offers somewhat of a “best of both worlds” recipe. The turbocharged three-liter flat-six produces 473 BHP and 570 Nm of torque, which launches the car to 60 MPH in just 3.3 seconds and sends all the noise through a standard sports exhaust that’s been tuned to work specifically with the GTS’ set-up. Top speed is also increased, now reaching 193 MPH.

The aforementioned weightless comes courtesy of lighter carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic bucket seats, lightweight glass for the side and rear windows, and a lightweight battery, while the rear seats that often benefit lower-level 911s have been removed too.

Rounding out the Porsche 911 GTS is its array of matt carbon fiber components inside, the 20 and 21” wheels seen at the front and rear of the car respectively, and the updated infotainment system that’s more driver and user-friendly than previous versions.

Take a look at the Porsche 911 GTS series (comprising the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera 4, and 911 Targa 4) above, and find out more on Porsche’s website. Prices start at $136,700 USD for the 911 Carrera GTS and go up to a base price of $156,800 USD for the 911 Targa 4 GTS, all before options are added.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, a 1970 Porsche 917 K is currently up for auction.
