This 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec in "Midnight Purple II" Is the One to Buy
But only if you’ve got deep pockets.
Now is the time to invest in a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec, not just because they’re an all-time JDM classic, but because very soon the car will no longer comply with the U.S.’ 25-year rule.
As we’ve seen with other Nissan Skyline GT-R models (as well as other rare Japanese imports), as soon as the car hits 25-years-old prices are destined to skyrocket. However, this hasn’t stopped bidders on the auction site Bring a Trailer from hiking up the price of this particular GT-R V-Spec you see above to astronomical heights (but more on that in a bit).
The car itself is one of 284 finished in the fan-favorite “Midnight Purple II,” and sits on a set of bronze-tinged factory 18” rims that house the gold Brembo brake calipers and aftermarket slotted rotors. Aside from this, there’s the famed twin-turbocharged 2.6-liter RB26DETT inline-six engine that produced 276 HP out of the factory — but Blue Chip Services of Englewood, Colorado, has given the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, ignition coils, oxygen sensor, and valve covers a once over.
As this is the highly coveted V-Spec version, the GT-R comes with a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and an ATTESA all-wheel-drive system, as well as an electronically-controlled active limited-slip rear differential, which is sure to keep the car planted on the tarmac. In V-Spec mode, the car also features a special carbon fiber rear diffuser that’s not found on other models.
Of course, because this car is turning 25-years-old in four year’s time, it is still only valid for 2,500 miles per year under a “Show and Display” license — hence why buying one now would be a good investment because prices are only going to rise. Despite this, and with 10 days of bidding still to go, the 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec above is currently sitting at $218,034 USD as of writing.
