Fred Perry Enlists Gorillaz to Showcase Its Epochal Polo Shirt

A garment untouched since its debut 60 years ago.

The Fred Perry shirt is the same today as it was when it was first released 60 years ago. Slim-fitting with the epochal Laurel Wreath on the left breast, each shirt is still crafted using traditional machines in the heart of Leicestershire, and finished expertly by hand. The finishing product: a humble polo shirt that remains a subcultural uniform to this day.

For 2021, showcasing the shirt from a unique point of view, the British label has enlisted the help of virtual band Gorillaz. Featuring frontman 2D, guitarist Noodle, drummer Russel Hobbs and bassist Murdoc Niccals, the campaign features each band member sporting different polo styles.

Sporting the M3 one-color shirt in all-white and the M12 in a “Tartan Green/Red”, “Brighton/French Navy” and “Maroon/White”, the campaign is also a nod to our continued existence in this virtual world — something the Gorillaz have done since their creation in 2001.

To complete the campaign, interviews and playlists from each band member will feature on the Fred Perry website in the coming weeks.

Now read why the Fred Perry polo is a symbol of British subculture.
