After releasing in several bold in-line colorways, New Balance‘s 57/40 is now set to receive its first collaborative makeups thanks to four Japanese powerhouses: N. HOOLYWOOD, mita x WHIZ LIMITED and atmos. All three pairs differ greatly in color and inspiration but are united in double-stacked build, marking a bold new push for the 57/40 during its third month on the market.

N.HOOLYWOOD’s collaboration is dubbed “Test Product Exchange.” It’s inspired by vintage military boots and constructed from a mixture of abrasion-resistant rubberized mesh and leather. Various shades of army-esque olive green and brown lock in the inspiration even further, and a printed “serial number” graphic is placed on tongues and outsoles alike. On the other hand, mita and WHIZ LIMITED’s pair offers a much more sporty look. It’s based on the soft gray and stark black shades of NB’s made in the USA models, but ramps up the vibrance considerably with vivid pops of blue and red — a WHIZ LIMITED signature.

Finally, the atmos pair provides the most colorful style of the bunch. Drawing from a summer day spent the beach, its overlays take on a sandy tan tone while the quarter, tongue and toebox provide a sky-and-sea tie dye that mixes blue and purple. This pattern is replicated on the insole, and translucent yellow tongue tags/midfoot logos nod to bright sunshine. All three pairs come with an extra set of insoles plus spare shoelaces.

Interested parties can expect the N. HOOLYWOOD, mita x WHIZ LIMITED and atmos New Balance 57/40s to release via the New Balance Japan webstore come March 20. The MSRP for N. HOOLYWOOD’s pair is set at ¥19,800 JPY (approximately $181 USD), while the other two styles both arrive at ¥17,600 JPY (approximately $161 USD). All three prices are inclusive of tax.
