Celine‘s creative director Hedi Slimane has announced a solo exhibit at the Almine Rech Gallery in Shanghai this month. The exhibit is titled “Sun of Sound” and marks the artist’s first solo exhibit since 2014 and first in China.

The exhibit is an all-encompassing sound and visual experience intended to focus on Slimane’s work in the music scene. In addition to his extensive influence in the fashion industry and his synonymous slim-cut silhouette, he has always focused on the representation of youth in his visual work as well as reinvented the way musicians and bands are documented in the current era.

Known for his minimalistic and black-and-white aesthetic, his still-life photographs have become “silent expressions of youth” as reported in a statement by the gallery. At the core of the “Sun of Sound” exhibit, Slimane is set to showcase some of his most iconic portraits of musicians.

Exhibit attendees can expect to view a series of photographs of famous musical artists such as Amy Winehouse, Lou Reed, Keith Richards and Brian Wilson. The exhibit is also expected to present some of Slimane’s earlier works such as Berlin (2003) and London, Birth of a Cult (2005). The latter showcases the everyday life of Pete Doherty, a young and unknown British punk rockstar at the time.

“Sun of Sound” will feature an immersive experience for fans, allowing them to engage in Slimane’s exploration of music intertwined with his visual work.

In case you missed it, Karon Davis’ NYC exhibit highlights the mistreatment of Black Panther Bobby Seale during the Chicago Seven Trial.
