The CDC Prepares a Pretty Useful Official Zombie Apocalypse Guide

“You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this.”

In an effort to promote general preparedness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has now put together an official zombie apocalypse guide.

Aside from offering a brief breakdown of the history of zombies, the useful list of things to follow suggests preparing an emergency kit “to be better safe than sorry.” Meant to hold you over until you can “locate a zombie-free refugee camp,” the kit should include water, nonperishable food, medication, tools and supplies, sanitation and hygiene products, clothing and bedding, important documents and of course first aid supplies.

Another important thing to have ready is an emergency plan. The procedure should assess immediate dangers, designate a safe place to regroup, note emergency contacts and have a path of evacuation. The final part of the guide outlines just what the CDC will be doing if there really is a zombie outbreak.

Despite the unlikely nature of a zombie apocalypse, the CDC hopes that the guide will get people thinking about what they would do in an emergency. “You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.”

Head over to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website to read its official zombie apocalypse guide in full.
