Balenciaga Transforms the Track Sneaker Into a Mule
Upgrade your WFH footwear flex for $895 USD.

From the original Track Sneaker to its revival as a hiking boot, a silver-cast display item, various sandal interpretations, and slip-ons, Balenciaga has given the model quite the run in its three-year lifespan. However, under the vision of Demna Gvasalia, the silhouette has transformed once more into becoming a mule — because it wouldn’t be lockdown without more mules to choose from.
Needless to say, the Balenciaga Track Mule fits the bill for all your work from home indoor shoe needs. While the now-signature nylon and mesh upper remains intact, sporting its complex interwoven design details that provide indents and crossovers all around, the mule-infused pair seen above is, of course, backless.
At the front, you’ll find typical Track Sneaker details such as the Balenciaga embroidery on the lateral front-quarter, the embroidered size tag on the toe, and the “BB”-embossed bumper underneath. The double set of laces also remains, as does the dynamic sole unit that features an exaggerated heel for a forward-propelling motion when on foot.
Switching things up is the back section — or lack of, should we say. Smooth polyurethane dresses the descending collar that opens up the shoe at the rear, inviting you into a branded footbed that’s covered by the tongue. Balenciaga is dropping the Track Mule in black, white, and beige via a pre-order system on its website, with pairs expected to be delivered no later than April 12. Each pair costs $895 USD.
