Celebrated as an iconic boxing manga/anime franchise, Kodansha‘s Ashita no Joe title written by Asao Takamori and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba has now released a set of limited-edition whiskies.

Originally serialized back in 1968, Ashita no Joe is an influential manga that reflective manga aesthetics of the late ‘60s/early ‘70s and served to mirror Japan struggling to find its identity following World War 2.

Exclusive to online whiskey retailer Whisky Mew, the two aged Scotch single malts come in special bottles marked by illustrations of street drifted turned professional Joe Yabuki. The first of the two spirits is produced by Speyside distillery Allt-A-Bhainne. Coming at 48.9 percent alcohol, the Ashita no Joe Allt-a-Bhainne 1993 features a balanced sweet spice base with a woody finish that carries aromas of light toffee, sakura mochi and umeshu. While the lighter Ashita no Joe Secret Highland 1985 features 47.6-percent-alcohol and a sweet flavor marked by floral notes, the aroma of caramel, apple pie and orange marmalade developed over 34 years of aging.

Priced at ¥29,700 and ¥57,200 JPY (approximately $273 and $525 USD), the Ashita no Joe Allt-a-Bhainne 1993 and Secret Highland 1985 whiskies are available now at Whisky Mew.
