Last month, luxury Japanese manufacturer Lexus unveiled the 2022 IS 500 F Sport Performance, and now the marque has given North America an even more special version of this anticipated hot saloon — the Launch Edition model.

While it’s name may be longwinded — IS 500 F Sport Performance Launch Edition — the facts, stats, and numbers are straight to the point. Underneath the hood is a five-liter V8 producing 472 HP and 395 lb.-ft. of torque, which is the same as standard, but the power is not what’s special about this Launch Edition version.

Instead, Lexus has put a focus on exclusivity. Only 500 of these models will be built for the North American market, each featuring a unique serialized Launch Edition badge inside and an exterior that’s finished in the brand-new shade of “Incognito.” Additionally, a set of 19-inch split seven-spoke forged alloy “Matte Black” BBS wheels from the IS F SPORT Dynamic Handling Package are fitted as standard, while back inside you’ll find a host of new treatments.

The interior is covered in two-tone black and gray Ultrasuede that trims the seats, door accents, and center console. A leather-wrapped heated steering wheel has been customized with silver ash wood details and a black F SPORT Performance badge, while a new Launch Edition startup animation on the instrument meter will also be displayed upon starting the car up.

For now, Lexus has not divulged pricing but you can expect it cost a fair chunk more than the standard IS 500 F Sport Performance model. The Launch Edition is expected to arrive at dealers in North America this fall.
