Emerging British Sneaker Brand notwoways' subsolar Is a Maximalist's Minimalist Dream
Its third chunky sneaker is bulky yet refined and is wrapped up in a subtle beige colorway.
Emerging London-based sneaker label notwoways — the brand HYPEBEAST said to keep an eye on in 2021 following its sell-out moonless sneaker drop — has announced its third sneaker, coming through bigger and better with the all-new subsolar silhouette.
Served in a “Beige/Moonbeam/Exuberance/Clear Fade” colorway (essentially made up of varying tonal beige hues alongside hits of orange and translucent components), the subsolar is without a doubt notwoways’ cleanest and most season-correct sneaker to date. Perfect for the upcoming spring months, the palette is unassuming while highlighting the very best bits of the shoe, letting the technical overlapping aesthetic do all the talking.
Indeed, the sneaker features a mesh base that peaks through a predominately suede upper. Layers of the suede are interwoven between overlapping panels, creating a technical yet neat design that adds to the shoe’s chunky aesthetic. Additionally, the shape has had a slight overhaul, seeing a redeveloped heel cage, new recycled eyelets, and a sole comprising a strober and EVA footbed, a new phylon and recycled rubber midsole formula, and a rounded heel all feature on the subsolar alongside mid and outsole logo branding and an improved heel section. In short, everything has been wearer-focused to make the subsolar the most comfortable shoe from notwoways to date.
As explained in HYPEBEAST’s feature about emerging sneaker brands, notwoways’ sneakers “are about 70 percent sustainable.” The brand’s co-founder and YouTube content creator Callux, aka Callum McGinley, added, “Imagine we can come out and say, ‘For the last year you’ve been wearing a sustainable shoe, it wasn’t that hard, was it?’ There’s a lot of people out there shouting but aren’t doing much, but we’ve been doing it from the start.” Sustainability comes into play regarding the shoe’s upper that’s made from European nubuck that’s tanned chrome-free, while elements such as the mesh, lining and insoles are made from a recycled or 100 percent organic cotton source, as explained by the shoe’s designer Rockwell Princely Daroen.
As with notwoways’ previous sneakers, the subsolar will be priced at £100 GBP (approx. $140 USD) and is set to drop in sizes UK 3 to UK 13 exclusively on the notwoways website. A tentative release date of March 8 has been put in place, but expect more updates from the brand on its Instagram account as it steps closer to the release.
