Blue Ribbon Sports was founded on January 25, 1964, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, seven years before the sportswear retailer turned its company into the industry giant that is now Nike. This legacy has never been forgotten as Nike continues to grow, and its latest ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% is the perfect proof of this.

Heralded as one of Nike’s best running sneakers around, the ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% features a lightweight, ultra-thin and translucent VaporWeave upper that’s been given a Blue Ribbon Sports makeover. Using an archival color palette of “Game Royal/White,” the BRS logo finds itself swirling through the upper, appearing visible as the shoe becomes more see-through towards the mid-panel and toe sections.

This is paired with microsuede details on the shoe’s collar and synthetic overlays acting as structural support on the eyestay placket and heel. An enlarged Swoosh logo in white intersects the entire design, swooping over the toe box and onto the medial side, while a filled white Swoosh decorates the lateral side’s rear quarter.

Working your way down the shoe, you’ll find a blue-to-white gradient midsole section that leads to a red stripe cutting in between this gradient and the off white sole unit. Inside this sole unit comes a host of running aids, such as a foam layer and a full-length carbon fiber plate that’s paired with Nike’s proprietary ZoomX cushioning. Together, this trio of tech works to add cushioning, comfort, support, but most importantly, a sense of propulsion for a rapid boost when you run.

The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% in “Game Royal/White” is available to purchase at stockists such as Livestock now, costing $260 USD a pair. Take a closer look at this homage-paying sneaker above.
