Hublot has produced the striking Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin to celebrate one of ice hockey’s all-time greats, the captain of the Washington Capitals and scorer of 700 career goals, known affectionately by fans as ‘Ovi’.

The 4Hz flyback chronograph has been encased in Red Carbon representing the Russian’s nationality, something also picked out in red, white and blue on the tip of the chronograph seconds hand.

The case material is a form of forged carbon using micro-glass fibers in red-tinted adhesive, a process recently used for Girard-Perregaux’s Absolute Wired online exclusive.

Ovi’s ‘The Great Eight’ logo, based on his jersey number, replaces the eight o’clock hour marker on the dial and the player’s signature adorns the caseback, while the watch is presented with a custom-made, signed hockey puck.

Limited to 100 pieces, the Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin is available now, priced $26,200.

In other watch news, Worn & Wound and French brand Yema have produced a new limited edition Superman dive watch.
