Space-Worn IWC Chronographs Raise $405,000 USD For Children's Hospital
So far the Inspiration4 mission has raised $240m USD for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The four IWC chronographs that went into space on the wrists of the astronauts of the first all-civilian orbital mission have been auctioned off for charity.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Inspiration4” watches raised $405,000 USD for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, which is “leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.”
IWC designed and donated the watches, engraving the casebacks of each watch specifically for each astronaut and their given mission value; commander Jared Isaacman (Leadership), Dr. Sian Proctor (Prosperity), Hayley Arceneaux (Hope) and Chris Sembroski (Generosity).
The watches accompanied the crew on the Inspiration4 orbital mission, which returned to Earth in September after orbiting 364 miles above the surface of the planet.
The watch worn by Arceneaux, a 29-year old physician assistant at St. Jude and a pediatric cancer survivor, went under the hammer at the official St. Jude Inspiration4 Celebration held on 6 November in California, while the other three were auctioned online at CharityBuzz.
The Inspiration4 mission has so far raised $240m USD for the hospital.
