Nike Built a Skate Landscape at Its European Headquarters With Designer Rich Holland
Featuring a whimsical gradient-colored sculpture by Ruben Sanchez.
Designer Rich Holland of Floda31, a Sweden-based creative and collaborative house, linked up with Nike to give its Netherlands European Headquarters a new sense of energy that brings together like-minded individuals through a skate landscape. The Birmingham-born creative shaped up a space that is anything but a traditional skatepark that bridges the entire campus together from the sports facilities to the offices.
Veering from a conventional aesthetic, the project utilizes elements that are both skate-able yet authentic as the formations emerge with a combination of ocean patterns and objects that have been key components of the sport throughout the decades. Highlighting the area is a massive Aalto wave while details such as a kidney blob, planter Viking block and enlarge trunk slab are strategically placed around. Aside from the greenery, a vibrant gradient-colored sculpture entitled “The Bounce” by Ruben Sanchez erects from one end to add more playfulness to the landscape.
The area is open daily to anyone and provides training for those looking to learn how to skate.
