If you haven’t seen the Netflix phenomenon that is Squid Game, then tune in, as the psychological thriller is producing a new era of Korean superstars. Jung Ho-yeon, who plays the North Korean Kang Sae-byeok, has not only become the most followed Korean actor on Instagram with followers totaling 14.9m as of writing, but is now Louis Vuitton‘s Global House Ambassador for fashion, watches and jewelry.
Jung’s career started in the fashion industry, modeling for Louis Vuitton in its ready-to-wear campaign in 2017 and also starring on the house’s runway. Following an appearance on Korea’s Next Top Model placing second, Jung starred in shoots for Vogue Girl Korea, Nylon Korea, and ELLE Wedding, and has been a cover star for Vogue Japan, Vogue Korea, W Korea, and Harper’s Bazaar Korea. The result? Vogue crowned her Korea’s actual next top model.
Speaking on the appointment, Nicolas Ghesquière said, “I immediately fell in love with HoYeon’s great talent and fantastic personality, and I am looking forward to starting this new chapter of the journey we started at Louis Vuitton a few years ago.”
In the campaign image, Jung is seen wearing a pair of Louis Vuitton slingback pumps alongside a double-breasted coat and the brand’s new Twist bag in black with a slinky silver chain. Speaking to Soompi, Jung said, “It is an honor to mark my beginnings as an actress with Louis Vuitton after having worked with them as a model. I’m looking forward to every moment I will experience with Louis Vuitton as their global ambassador.”
In other news, a second season of Squid Game could be in the making.
