IWC and Hot Wheels Introduce a Collaborative "Racing Works" Watch and Toy Set
The limited-to-50 pieces launch celebrates return to Goodwood.

IWC Schaffhausen and Hot Wheels have joined forces to create a joint watch and mini Mercdes-Benz 300SL Gullwing toy set titled “Racing Works.” The project is designed to commemorate the 78th Goodwood Members’ Meeting where Austrian driver Laura Kraihamer hit the track and got the behind the wheel of the iconic German vehicle.
This made-for-collector’s set includes the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “IWC x Hot WheelsTM Racing Works” along with a miniature Hot Wheels
Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Racing Works Edition,” both of which are packaged inside of a special metal toolbox. The former is dressed with a neutral-focused gray and black color scheme and features checkered racing flag patterns across the face that are laser-engraved. Additionally, the Hot Wheels moniker is engraved on the left side of the case and the backside is adorned with a “68” hit.
Thematic touches abound, from the laser-engraved checkered racing flag pattern on the face to the Hot Wheels logo engraved on the 9 o’clock side. On the rear, that stylized “68.” The tiny toy offering hers is stylized to match that of the original and features a classic titanium body that comes accessorized with “68” hits on the doors and on the hood, the latter of which is backdropped in black. In this instance, the “68” number has an element of duality as it appears to salute the 1868 — the year that IWC was founded — as well as 1968 — the year that Hot Wheels was introduced.
“It was a chance meeting with Hot Wheels designer Manson Cheung that kick-started our partnership,” Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen stated. “Our shared passion for automotive design and mechanical watches led to a meeting between the design teams of both brands at the Mattel Design Center in El Segundo. We instantly connected, speaking the same language of design, art, and engineering.”
The first set will be auctioned off online by Bonhams with proceeds benefitting the Two Bit Circus Foundation, while the remaining 49 will be available later in October for a handsome $10,000 USD price point.
