BLACK Comme des Garçons Revives Archival Nike Running Graphics
Referencing the Wellesley marathon, greek artwork, Butte county, waffle runners and more.

BLACK Comme des Garçons has a thing for reviving vintage Nike graphics, having previously done the same with its capsule in September 2020 that saw retro designs adorn ringer tees and another in that November that put the spotlight on Blue Ribbon Sports. Now, the two are back together for the launch of a trio of vintage-inspired graphic tees that’s accompanied by a familiar BLACK Comme des Garçons x Nike offering, the “Live Free With Strong Will” piece that was also seen in April this year.
The vintage T-shirts include one that honors Nike’s trail running lineage, adding a graphic of a mountain path alongside the phrase “1973 Nike-CDG Storm the Butte,” which is not just a reference to the county in Califonia that’s known for its natural beauty, but also Nike ACG.
Up next is the Wellesley Marathon tee, which is a reference to the town that’s part of Greater Boston, thus referencing the Boston Marathon of 1983. The graphic sees three runners in the style of Greek mythology, which is acknowledged by the “Athenian Vase Painting” stamp beneath it.
Last but not least is the BLACK Comme des Garçons x Nike Washington Park 1978 Fun Run tee, which combines text with a graphic of a Nike waffle running sole and a Swoosh logo. All T-shirts, except the “Live Free With Strong Will” version, retail for £100 GBP (approx. $137.50 USD). Take a closer look at them above, and purchase them now from Dover Street Market London’s website and store.
