Nike Air Max 96 II to Return in OG "Goldenrod" Colorway
In celebration of its 25th anniversary.

Though its original release was sandwiched in between two cultural icons — the Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 — Nike‘s Air Max 96 II is a key transition piece in Air Max tech’s ’90s lineage, and now it’s returning in an OG “Goldenrod” colorway to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Along with the vivid “Mystic Teal” colorway, the “Goldenrod” is one of the 96 II’s most notable colorways. It last appeared in 2016, but that 20th anniversary iteration was dubbed the Air Max 96 XX, and featured altered midsole tooling. This new makeup, however, boasts a build that’s much closer to the original.
A ridged dark navy mesh serves as the upper’s base layer, and is quickly bolstered by crisp white leather overlays, most of which feature a tilted L shape. The eponymous “Goldenrod” hue appears on a racing stripe that starts from the rear of the mudguard, crosses over the rubberized midfoot Swoosh and comes to rest on the heel.
Further branding is served by small “Goldenrod” Swooshes on the toeboxes and under the eyestays, plus Air Max hits on tongues and heels alike. Hi-vis reflective material is present on the toeboxes, throats and heels. Down below, a white EVA foam midsole surrounds orange Air Max units, slightly downsized from the original’s bulbous bubbles. Two-tone outsoles complete the look.
An official release date for the Nike Air Max 96 “Goldenrod” has yet to be revealed, but it’ll likely arrive on the Nike webstore in the forthcoming months.
