The COVID-19 pandemic has caused industries to come to a halt, preventing events from taking place in real life for almost a year now. However, the organizers of the UK‘s Comic-Con are being hopeful, with plans of bringing the MCM Comic-Con event to London and Birmingham this year already being discussed.

In 2020, San Diego’s Comic-Con was canceled, marking the first time this had happened in 50 years. Following on from this, the event was streamed online, which was another first for the SDCC Comic-Con. This year is slightly different.

Firstly, MCM Comic-Con’s organizers ReedPop will be holding a series of virtual “Metaverse” events from spring through to summer for those who won’t be able to make it to London or Birmingham. Exclusive content, merchandise and the even typical Comic-Con moments such as meeting with celebrities will take place online, which is aimed to be “a 365-day celebration of all things pop culture,” according to ReedPop.

Furthermore, Teresa Heitor, MCM Comic Con event director at ReedPop, said, “We want to thank our fans for waiting patiently during this challenging and unprecedented time while we focus on bringing them the best pop culture events in the UK in a safe, responsible, and fun way… The enjoyment and wellbeing of our attendees, guests, and community remains our top priority. We can’t wait to gather with you all again and until then, our team remains hard at work to continue creating events with the superior quality content and show experiences that we know our fans expect.”

MCM Comic-Con will take place in London from October 22 to the 24th, while the event will land in Birmingham from November 13 to the 14th. Ticket information is due to come in the following months, which will also outline the necessary safety measures the event’s organizers will be taking as the pandemic continues to prevail.

In other news, Amber Heard could be starring in the HBO Max Aquaman spin-off.
